About this Podcast

HOST: Welcome to our podcast, today I'm thrilled to be talking with an expert in immersive news trends. Can you tell us a bit about your background and how you got involved in this field? GUEST: Sure, I've been a journalist for over 15 years, and I've always been fascinated by the intersection of technology and storytelling. I started exploring virtual reality and augmented reality a few years ago, and I quickly realized the potential they have for journalism. HOST: That's fascinating. The 'Graduate Certificate in Immersive News Trends' is designed to help aspiring media professionals learn about these technologies. Can you share some current industry trends in virtual reality, augmented reality, and interactive journalism? GUEST: Absolutely, we're seeing more and more news organizations experimenting with these technologies. For example, the New York Times has a dedicated VR team that produces immersive stories, and the BBC has been using AR to enhance its news coverage. Interactive journalism is also on the rise, with more outlets using data visualization and other interactive elements to engage their audiences. HOST: Those are exciting developments. But I imagine there must be challenges in implementing these new technologies. Can you share some of the challenges you've faced or seen in this field? GUEST: Yes, there are definitely challenges. One of the biggest is the cost - producing VR and AR content can be expensive. There's also the challenge of making these stories accessible to a wide audience, as not everyone has access to VR headsets or the necessary technology to view AR content. And of course, there's the learning curve - journalists need to learn new skills to create immersive stories. HOST: Those are important considerations. Despite these challenges, what do you think the future holds for immersive news trends? GUEST: I think the future is bright. As technology becomes more accessible and affordable, we'll see more news organizations experimenting with these technologies. We'll also see more innovative approaches to storytelling, as journalists find new ways to engage their audiences. It's an exciting time to be in this field. HOST: I couldn't agree more. Thank you so much for joining us today and sharing your insights on the 'Graduate Certificate in Immersive News Trends'. It's been a pleasure talking with you. GUEST: Thank you for having me.
