About this Podcast

HOST: Welcome to our podcast, today I'm excited to have Dr. Jane Smith with us. She's an expert in environmental education and the lead instructor for the Postgraduate Certificate in Green Schoolyards. Dr. Smith, can you tell us a bit about what inspired you to create this course? GUEST: Absolutely, I've seen firsthand how connecting students with nature improves their learning outcomes and overall well-being. This course is designed to empower educators to transform traditional schoolyards into green, sustainable spaces. HOST: That's wonderful. What current trends are you seeing in the industry related to green schoolyards? GUEST: There's a growing emphasis on outdoor classrooms and experiential learning. Schools are recognizing the importance of providing students with opportunities to learn in and from nature. HOST: I can imagine there must be some challenges in implementing and maintaining green schoolyards. Can you share any insights on these challenges? GUEST: Funding and community buy-in can be difficult to secure. However, once people see the benefits of green schoolyards, they're usually convinced. We provide resources and strategies in the course to help overcome these challenges. HOST: That's really helpful. Looking towards the future, where do you see this area heading in the next 5 to 10 years? GUEST: I believe we'll see more schools adopting green schoolyard practices, and it becoming a standard part of the educational landscape. Our goal is to equip educators with the necessary skills to lead this change. HOST: Dr. Smith, thank you for sharing your insights and experiences with us today. It's been a pleasure having you on the show.
