About this Podcast
HOST: Welcome to our podcast, today we're lucky to have Dr. Jane Smith, an expert in disaster risk reduction and the lead instructor for the Certificate Programme in Disaster Risk Reduction for Renters. Welcome, Jane! GUEST: Thanks for having me! I'm excited to be here. HOST: Could you share some of your personal experiences that led you to focus on disaster risk reduction, especially for renters? GUEST: Absolutely. I've witnessed firsthand how disasters can devastate communities, and I've seen the unique challenges renters face in preparing for and recovering from such events. HOST: That's eye-opening. Now, what are some current industry trends that renters should be aware of when it comes to disaster preparedness? GUEST: More property managers are recognizing the importance of disaster resilience and offering resources to their tenants. Additionally, technology is playing a bigger role in emergency planning and response. HOST: Interesting. What challenges have you faced in teaching this subject, and how do you overcome them? GUEST: The biggest challenge is helping students understand that disaster risk reduction is their responsibility, too. We work on building a sense of community and empowering participants to take action. HOST: That's inspiring. Looking to the future, where do you see the field of disaster risk reduction heading, particularly for renters? GUEST: I believe we'll see increased collaboration between renters, property managers, and local governments to create safer, more resilient communities.
