About this Podcast

HOST: Welcome to our podcast, today I'm excited to be joined by Dr. Sarah Peterson, a leading expert in Robotics Ethics and the course director for the Certified Specialist Programme in Ethical Robotics Governance. Sarah, it's great to have you here! GUEST: Thank you for having me, I'm looking forward to our conversation. HOST: Let's dive right in. Can you share with us what initially drew you to this field and some personal experiences that shaped your perspective on ethical robotics governance? GUEST: Of course. I've always been fascinated by the intersection of technology and society. During my PhD, I encountered several ethical dilemmas in robotics development which led me to specialize in this area. HOST: Fascinating. And how do you think these ethical considerations are perceived within the industry today? Are there any current trends that stand out to you? GUEST: There's growing awareness and demand for ethical governance in robotics. Companies are starting to realize the importance of responsible AI and are investing in ethical training for their engineers. HOST: That's promising. However, there must be challenges in implementing these principles. Could you tell us about some obstacles you've faced or observed in this field? GUEST: Absolutely. One major challenge is striking a balance between innovation and ethical responsibility. Another is ensuring that governance frameworks are globally applicable, considering different cultural contexts and regulations. HOST: Those are significant hurdles indeed. Now, looking ahead, where do you see ethical robotics governance heading in the next 5-10 years? GUEST: I believe we'll see more standardization of ethical guidelines and increased collaboration between industries, governments, and academia to tackle these challenges together. HOST: Well, Dr. Peterson, it's been an enlightening discussion. Thank you for sharing your insights on the Certified Specialist Programme in Ethical Robotics Governance.
