About this Podcast
HOST: Welcome to our podcast, today we're talking with Dr. Sofia Ramirez, the lead instructor for the Certificate Programme in Minority Health Promotion. Dr. Ramirez, can you tell us a bit about your personal experiences and insights that led you to create this course? GUEST: Absolutely, I've worked as a healthcare professional for over two decades, and I've seen firsthand the health disparities faced by minority populations. This course is my way of giving back and equipping others with the skills to make a difference. HOST: That's commendable. Now, in terms of industry trends, what are some current issues or advancements in minority health promotion? GUEST: There's growing recognition of the importance of cultural competency in healthcare. Also, telehealth and digital health initiatives are increasingly being used to reach and serve diverse communities. HOST: Interesting. And what challenges have you faced or observed when it comes to addressing health disparities and promoting wellness in diverse communities? GUEST: One major challenge is the lack of representation and resources in these communities. Additionally, there can be resistance to change and a lack of understanding about the root causes of health disparities. HOST: That's tough but important to acknowledge. Looking toward the future, how do you see the field of minority health evolving? GUEST: I believe we'll see more emphasis on prevention and community-based interventions. Also, there's potential for technology to play an even bigger role in addressing health disparities. HOST: Dr. Ramirez, thank you for sharing your insights and for your work in creating the Certificate Programme in Minority Health Promotion. It's clear that this course will equip healthcare professionals, community leaders, and advocates with the skills to make a meaningful impact in minority health. GUEST: Thank you for having me. It's been a pleasure.
