About this Podcast

HOST: Welcome to our podcast, today we are excited to have Dr. Jane Smith with us, an expert in mindful storytelling and the creator of the Certified Specialist Programme in Mindful Storytelling for Nonprofits. Dr. Smith, could you please share a bit about your personal journey and experiences that led you to create this course? GUEST: Thanks for having me! I've spent over two decades working in the nonprofit sector, and I noticed that many organizations struggled to communicate their missions effectively. I became passionate about helping them tell authentic, compelling stories and discovered the power of mindfulness in enhancing this process. HOST: That's fascinating. Could you explain how mindfulness plays a role in storytelling for nonprofits? GUEST: Absolutely! Mindfulness helps nonprofit professionals to be fully present and connected while crafting and sharing their stories. It enables them to communicate more authentically, listen deeply, and create content that resonates emotionally with their audience. HOST: Now that we understand the role of mindfulness in storytelling, could you share some current industry trends that are relevant to your course? GUEST: Of course. One significant trend is the increasing use of digital storytelling tools such as podcasts, videos, and social media. These platforms offer nonprofits new ways to engage their audiences and share their stories. Another trend is the growing emphasis on data-driven narratives, where organizations use data and statistics to reinforce their stories and demonstrate impact. HOST: Those are interesting trends. Now, what are some challenges faced in the field or while teaching this subject, and how does your course address them? GUEST: A common challenge is overcoming the fear of sharing personal stories, especially for those working in more conservative organizations. Our course provides a safe and supportive environment for participants to explore this vulnerability. Another challenge is staying up-to-date with the latest digital storytelling tools and techniques. We continuously update our course materials to ensure our participants have access to the most relevant and current information. HOST: That's great to hear. Lastly, what do you envision for the future of mindful storytelling in the nonprofit sector? GUEST: I believe mindful storytelling will become an essential skill for nonprofit professionals as they navigate an increasingly complex and interconnected world. As technology advances, I see the potential for even more innovative and immersive storytelling methods that foster deeper connections between nonprofits and their audiences. HOST: Dr. Smith, thank you so much for sharing your insights and experiences with us today. We're sure that the Certified Specialist Programme in Mindful Storytelling for Nonprofits will empower many organizations to connect more deeply with their audiences and make a more significant impact. GUEST: Thank you for having me! I'm excited to see the transformative power of mindful storytelling at work in the nonprofit sector.
